Technology A number of people have a hard time understanding what technology and/or Technology Education are. If you think of all things that are created from using natural and synthetic materials (wood, sand, iron ore, water, plastics etc.), this is technology. If you want a definition, the practical use of human knowledge to solve problems and satisfy human wants and needs, is a simple one to remember. Technology Education Technology Education is the engaged discipline devoted to the application of knowledge to solve problems and extends capabilities through the changing and control of our worlds resources. "Technology Education is education about technology - its processes, evolution, systems, resources, limitations, impacts, products, and problems - in its historical, environmental, economic, and cultural context. Through the problem solving process, students learn to research, study, create, and evaluate. As a result of Technology Education, students will better understand the world in which they live and be more prepared for the future." New Hampshire Technology Education Curriculum Guide Technological Literacy The ability to use, manage, assess, and understand technology. "Technological literacy is much more than just knowledge about computers and their application. It involves a vision where each citizen has a degree of knowledge about the nature, behavior, power, and consequences of technology from a broad perspective. Inherently, it involves educational programs where learners become engaged in critical thinking as they design and develop products, systems, and environments to solve practical problems" Preface, Technology for All Americans-A Rationale.
