Coaching Staff

Boys' Basketball:

Joseph Kegler

Joseph Kegler joins the Bedford High School staff as a Social Studies teacher, Boys Varsity Basketball Coach and Junior Varsity Girls Volleyball coach. Joe comes to us from Ridgefield (Conn.) High School where he coached Football, Girls and Boys Volleyball, Baseball and Basketball. In 2002 he was selected as Boys Basketball “Coach of the Year”. In 2004 he accepted an assistant basketball coaching position with Western Connecticut State University.

James Cilley

Jim works in the School-to-Career program at Bedford High School and will be assisting in Boys Basketball. Jim attended St. Joseph College in Maine where he received a degree in Business Administration. He has coached middle school and high school basketball, including work as the assistant varsity coach at Belmont High School.

Girls' Basketball:

Scott Sarsfield

Scott Sarsfield comes to Bedford High School from Campbell High School and will be teaching Math and coaching Varsity Girls’ Basketball. Scott began coaching junior varsity girls’ basketball in 1995 at Portsmouth High School. In 1996 he moved on to St. Thomas Aquinas High School where he coached freshmen girls’ basketball. Since 2001 he has taught and coached at Campbell High School, coaching the junior varsity and assisting with the varsity girls’ basketball program.

Barbara Gering

Barbara Gering works in the Special Education Department at Bedford High School and will coach JV/Frosh Girls Basketball at Bedford High School. She played basketball at Colby Sawyer where she served as team captain and after graduation, as an assistant coach at that school. She has also coached at the high school level as Sunapee’s High School’s varsity coach (Coach of the year in 2000) and most recently as an assistant coach at Bishop Brady High School.

Hockey:

Matthew Guerard

Matthew Guerard comes to Bedford High School, teaching Wellness and coaching Varsity Boys Lacrosse. Matt attended Catawba College where he played men’s lacrosse. After graduating he continued on at Catawba as an assistant coach. Most recently Matt was a physical education instructor at Pelham Memorial School and served as an assistant varsity lacrosse coach and assistant varsity hockey coach at Pinkerton Academy.

Alpine Skiing:

Rebecca Gates

Rebecca Gates comes to Bedford High School from Kennett High School as a Math teacher and will serve as the Alpine Ski Coach and Junior Varsity Girls Soccer Coach. While an undergraduate at St. Michaels College Becky competed in Alpine skiing and Soccer. She has coached skiing at the Green Mountain Valley School in Vermont and has coached at the J-3 level at Wildcat Mountain. In soccer Becky has coached the Kennett Junior High School girls soccer team since 2002. Additionally, for the past three years, Becky has coached the U-18 Mt. Washington Valley Girls soccer Club.

Nordic Skiing:

Laura Creagan

Laura Creagan will coach Nordic Skiing at Bedford High School. Most recently Laura worked as an assistant Nordic Coach at Manchester West High School. She also served as a Nordic coach in Maine at Greely High School and at Cape Elizabeth Middle School. Since 2001 she has also been involved with coaching youth skiing, having taken part in state, regional and national Junior Olympic ski events. As a personal trainer her interests include skiing, cycling and triathlon.

Spirit (Winter):

Jennifer Tavares

Jennifer Tavares will serve as the Spirit Coach for Bedford High School this Fall and Winter. Jenn brings a great deal of experience with her, having cheered while in school, including four years at Southern New Hampshire University. She has coached at the high school level and, most recently, was the Head Cheerleading Coach at SNHU. In 2006 her team placed 6th at the National Cheerleading Association Collegiate Cheer and Dance competition. In 2007 they were the US Cheer National Champions. She is also certified in the American Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Administrators National Safety Certification Program.

Sarah Elkins

Sarah is a middle school math teacher in Derry and will be assisting the Sprit Team this winter. Sarah has a strong background in cheerleading, having worked with youth cheerleading and with the middle school program in Derry. Most recently, Sarah served as the assistant (Fall) spirit coach at Bedford High School.

Boys' & Girls' Swimming:

Jennifer Cullen

Jennifer Cullen will coach Girls and Boys Swimming for Bedford High School. Jennifer is certified in Aquatics and is an instructor at the Manchester YMCA in Goffstown. From 1999 – 2002 Jennifer coached high school swimming at Beverly High School in Beverley Massachusetts. She has also coached age-group swimming in Beverly and at the YMCA in Manchester and Goffstown. Jennifer is a graduate of Trinity High school and the University of New England in Biddeford, ME.

Emily Blazek

Emily Blazek will serve as the Assistant Boys and Girls Swim Coach. Currently Emily teaches Science at Bedford High School. She was a competitive swimmer at South Portland (ME) High School and in age-group swimming. Additionally, she has worked for several years as an age-group instructor. Emily has competed in the “Peaks-to-Portland distance swim competition and in her spare time enjoys triathlon competitions.

Boys' Indoor Track & Field:

Derek Stank

Derek Stank comes to Bedford High School where he will teach Wellness and work as an Assistant Football coach and as Varsity Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field coach. Having a solid background in those sports as a high school athlete, Derek continued at the University of New Hampshire where in 2006, as a defensive end, he served as team Captain. In track & Field his concentration was on the shot put, discus and javelin.

Noah Pion

Noah Pion attended the University of New Hampshire with a degree in Pedagogy with an emphasis in Physical Education. He will work at Bedford High School in the Special Education Department. Noah was a three-sport athlete in high school excelling in football, track & field, and basketball. He will be working as an assistant coach in Football, indoor track and outdoor track

Girls' Indoor Track & Field:

Emily Blahnik

Emily Blahnik currently teaches at Memorial School in Bedford and will coach Girls Cross-Country, Indoor Track and Outdoor Track Teams at Bedford High School. As an athlete in high school Emily participated in the majority of track and field events with an emphasis on distance racing. She continues to enjoy running and occasionally competes in road racing.

Heidi Barb

Heidi Barb will be joining the Bedford High School staff as a Wellness teacher and assist the Girls Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field teams. Prior to coming to New Hampshire Heidi worked as a physical education / health teacher and coach in Oregon. Most recently Heidi was a teacher and coach in Westbrook, Maine. As a member of the Westbrook High School boys’ and girls’ track coaching staff she specialized in sprints, hurdles, relays, long jump and triple jump.

Wrestling:

Darrin Root

Darrin Root will coach Varsity/JV Wrestling at Bedford High School. He wrestled at Nashua High School, finishing 5th in the Heavyweight Division in the 1990 Class “L” State Tournament. Since 2003 Darrin has worked as an assistant wrestling coach at Merrimack High School. Additionally, since 1998, he has worked as an assistant coach in Merrimack’s football program. Darrin is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire with a degree in Communications. He currently works for Absolute Broadcasting Morning News and Sports as a reporter and producer.

Dustin Waller

Dustin Waller will assist in coaching Wrestling at Bedford High School. Dustin attended Merrimack High School where he competed in wrestling. He was a captain of the 2005-2006 Merrimack varsity team, placed 4th in Division 1 and was an All-State wrestler at 130 pounds. Last year he volunteered in the Merrimack program. Dustin is currently a student at the University of New Hampshire – Manchester where he is studying to become a pharmacy technician.
