| The McKelvie Band is the main instrumental performing group. It is open to students who have had at least one year of instrumental instruction (private or in group beginning lessons). The band plays diverse music which includes concert pieces and contemporary music and pop and show tunes. The band performs at two major school concerts a year, and also competes at a select band festival. Rehearsals are once a week after school on Thursdays for 65 minutes and once a week during school time in sectional format. In addition, there are 45 minute rotating after school sectionals scheduled on Mondays. The McKelvie Stage Band Stage Band is a small group of select students who play music in the tradition and instrumentation found in the Big Band movement of the Forties. The literature performed is contemporary and jazz based. This group also performs yearly at the two major school concerts. The stage band rehearses for 70 minutes after school on Wednesdays. |
